Year 8 Camp Reflection

Camp was fun we explored many things around Rotorua and learnt many things. It was a great opportunity for my friends and I to spend time together. I experienced many things for example I got to see the Lady Knox Geyser and other things. I also got to share a cabin with some of my friends JayLee, Serena and Huelo-ata, we had the cleanest cabin. I had a blast at Keswick Camp and made my bond with others stronger.

Thanks to all the parents who spared there time to come along with us it was a blessing.

2013 Highlights Of The Year

My highlight of the year was going  to camp, involved in sports and meeting new friends. At camp we got to do a lot of fun things, see and touch different types of sheep, explore around the Waiotapu Thermal Park and other things.

This year I was involved in many sports then I ever had been, I’ve made it into different sports teams and the teams have made it into Auckland Champs. I even meet some new friends in the beginning of the year.

My low light of the year is leaving Pt England School, I will dearly miss my friends and teachers. I will never forget the teachers who made me become a good Pt Englander. For the past 9 years I have loved this school so much I don’t want to leave but unfortunately I have to move on.

Next week Thursday will be my last time wearing the school uniform. I will always live by the motto Strive To Succeed. Pt England is always going to be in my heart and I will always be a Pt Englander. Pt England for life.

Year 8 Camp Highlights

My highlights of  camp was the Luge Rides, the Agrodome and the cabins. I loved Zooming down the hills and over taking my friends. The Agrodome was awesome learning more about sheep and what their abilities are. My cabin was like a kick back place with my friends, we will tell each other secrets,  mock eachother and make a lot of noise.

My lowlight of camp was the bad weather conditions, it rained nearly the whole time at camp except for when we arrived and left Keswick. I also had another low light of camp the long walks we will have, sorta did like it but the pathways were dirty and slippery.

I enjoyed every minute of camp and I do miss camp. I will like to go back someday with my family to visit. I recommend people who come from overseas to go to Rotorua theres a lot to explore, the Waiotapu Thermal Park, Agordome, The Luge, Blue Lake and many more.

Netbook Reflection 2013

Three years ago we had the opportunity to work with netbooks that were given to us as a gift. For the past years I’ve learned so much using this technology. Personally for me its a privilege to work with netbooks, but not only for me for many other kids in the Manaiakalani Cluster.

I have developed more skills from the sites Mr Barks has given me for example Math Whizz, Xtramath, teachers tools and many more. My netbook had helped me with my basic math facts,

it allowed me to accelerate in learning.

Its not only the teachers that teach me things, but also my friends. They taught me how to communicate over internet with different websites. I’ve also taught myself how to do things. I’ve learnt different strategies to help me out in maths using sites our teacher had given us with links to youtube videos. I’ve also learnt how to share my work with other people around the world.

Netbooks are very helpful!

Netball Team Outing

It was an amazing day out with my year 8  netball team 2. We went to Laser Strike, Tin Pin Bowling, Burger King and The Arcade Room. My favourite parts of the day out was The Arcade Games and Laser Strike. 

At Laser Strike I cheated I followed Alexandria and kept shooting her until her armour activated. At the end my score was 4560. I had an awesome time with my friends.

Prospective Student Narrative Writing

As the young boy gripped tenuously on the unstable  rock, it suddenly fell and he was left dangling on the ledge of  a mountain. As quickly as he could he reacted and struggled to climb out of the situation he was in. Relieved and exhausted he was glad that he had reached his destination. At long last he had finally reached the dojo and thought to himself   “My dream of becoming a kung fu master is finally here”. I hope the sensei accepts me”, hopes the boy.

Anxious and curious he knocked on the dojo door with no idea on what to expect.  Suddenly the huge door opened and standing in front of the boy was the sensei. To show respect the young boy bowed, but the sensei pointed directly to his right and slammed the door. The young boy was confused and he thought to himself “What a waste of time”.

By not giving up and losing faith the young boy thought he had to prove himself worthy by meditating all day and night til the morning sunrise. Still deep in meditation, the boy did not realize that the sensei was standing in front of him. The boy opened one lazy eye and once again the sensei pointed to his right and slammed the door.

The hopeless boy dropped his head in sadness and walks away. Suddenly he had changed his emotions, from depressed to furious. He stormed back to the dojo and karate kicked the enormous door down. The sensei came out again. “I challenge you to a karate battle!” demanded the boy. The sensei pointed in frustration to his right. Turning his head the boy notice the sign that the sensei had been pointing at. “PLEASE USE THE SIDE ENTRANCE!” said the sign. Embarrassed and feeling dumb the boy curled his arms up like a girl and walked onwards.

Year 7&8 Camp Argument

We believe that having no year 7 and 8 camp is like having no freedom and takes away valuable opportunities to experience the outdoors with our schoolmates. Camp fosters friendship, leadership, cooperation and builds up our confidence. The most important thing in camp is having fun. Therefore we think we should have a year seven and eight camp.

Camp gives us a valuable opportunity to experience the outdoors. For example if you've never kayaked before than camp is your chance to try it. Even if you've done this before as many year sevens and eights would have, it would give us the chance to gain even more confidence.

The year seven and eight camp also fosters new friendships or strengthens current friendships and allows us to show our leadership potential. You might get the chance to lead your team, help someone else if you’re an expert or be a good role model in your group. Because you are mixed up, not just in your own friendship group, you have to co-operate as a team and this helps you to develop your bond with others.

Our opinion is that we should have a year seven and eight camp, I trust you will now consider our idea for 2013 year seven and eight camp.

Te Tiriti O Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi)

In the early 1840’s there was a treaty that was agreed and signed between the Maori and the Pakeha. Lieutenant William Hobson and former British resident James Busby, invited up the Maori chiefs starting with Hone Heke. Each signing was followed by a handshake and greeting from Hobson: He iwi tahi tatou (we are now one people).

For months in the 1840’s the treaty was circulated around the country for the Maori chiefs to sign. Involved in the treaty, was the 3p’s. They meant Protection for their land. Partnership to bring friendship between the Maori and the Pakeha and last but not least Participation to bring peace to the nation. It was Queen Victoria’s responsibility to bring peace to the people at Waitangi, the Bay of Islands and to bring the Maori’s and Pakeha’s together.

About 40 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi in the Bay of Island in the 1840’s. By the end of the year, nearly 500 other Maori, including 13 women, had put their names or a moko on the Treaty. Others disagreed to not at all to sign the Treaty.

Room 21 has been learning about graphs and statistics and this is my pie graph that I created on a website. My pie graph is not the only graph. There are some other graphs like a bar graph, X Y graph, steam and leaf graph and a line graph. Graphs are really good to use to update data and see what is the most likely thing and what the most hated.

Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopyants!

In the weekends I have been Reading and Writing to help learn and to build my learning skills. The book I read was called Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor PoopyPants it had allot of interesting words and action. Finally I finished the book, a thought came to my mind it was writing about the book, and this is how it began.

In the story are two main charters and there names are Harold and George they didn't like there teacher Mr Krupp there old mean principle because he thinks that George and Harold are B.A.D. One day George and Harold hypnotized Mr Krupp and command him to take his pants and were a cape and called him Captain Underpants and has super power from the juice that George and Harold stole from aliens. When ever Mr Krupp hares a SNAP! he becomes you know Captain Under ware and if a person pours water on his head he turns back into old mean Mr Krupp.

Finishing the book made me more interested of reading more books about Captain Underpants and know I am a big fan of Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor PoopyPants By Dav Pilkey.

Christmas Day!!!

Yay! I shouted, because my family and I were going Christmas shopping. During Christmas shopping I get what ever I want and the best part is we get money from my parents and also buy a present for someone. We arrived at Sylvia Park, after spending minutes in Sylvia we drove off to Pakuranga. I jumped out of the van and walked to the shopping mall, I was really hungry so my mum gave me $10 to buy me Burger King (Big Meal).

While my mum and I were walking around we saw the 123 shop, we entered the store. I knew this was a perfect store for a gift, a ran to the back of the shop were the toys were and grabbed a gun. After a while my mum grabbed her Burger King and we left the mall, when we arrived at home I sneaked into my room and hid his present. Next morning I woke up to a fresh smell of food on the table. As soon as I smelt the air I ran to the kitchen and sitting on the table was a cooked pig, Grape Wine and also two fizzy drinks.

We ate so much we couldn't eat no more after our delicious feast. after awhile my sister’s, little brother and I tip toed to the room and grabbed the presents we rushed threw the kitchen door and shouted “Merry Christmas!”. I gently gave my little brother Christmas gift, he happily teared the wrapping paper and happily ran to his room.

My Little Brother's Birthday Celebration

On November 27 it was my little brother’s birthday and also my cousin, we did allot of fun things for my brother’s celebration, first we went to the duck pond for a wake up call at the duck pond my mum, Tevita (little brother) and I built sand castle and all sort of stuff it was so much fun. We head back home to get ready for our next activity, Swimming. We arrived at the swimming pools all dressed up, my little brother and I was really excited, we got into the pool and started swimming. I was starting to get bored playing around myself while my brother played with a boy he meet, I changed pools and walked over to the small pools, all of a sudden sadden I saw Andrea swimming with her cousin Hope I jumped in and stated to play with her. It was five o’clock it was time for me to go, Tevita and I was exhausted that when we arrived at home we went to bed then after we slept we ate K.F.C and it was delicious.

My Reflection About This Year

Sometimes I wonder how well I do at school, my teacher says I am a bright girl but my writing is mumble jumble and I do agree with him. Reading and Maths I’m doing great, my goal next year is to keep out of drama’s and stay on task during class. I have been thinking about what kind of things I have been involved in and what fun times I did at camp and school.
This year I have really enjoyed having a Netbook to work on because I learn more with the Internet and find information by searching, another thing is I write allot so I can get better and better and there are allot more reasons about why I enjoy working on my Netbook. Furthermore having a Netbook has meant so much for me and my parents, because my parents wants me to grow up to be a intelligent women, most definitely the best thing is going on to different and exciting sites. The hardest thing for me is staying out of my Netbook and waiting patiently.
This year was the best year of school for me, taking with me during the holidays the memories. Next year I can’t wait to be a year seven and to meet my knew teacher and friends.

I LOVE To Play Guitar

I was the age 10 when I first learnt how to play guitar and my big brother was my teacher who taught me how to play, it was quiet difficult to my sister learning to bar, I can play some songs and my big brother can play all sort of songs. My favourite song to play on guitar was Halo by Beyonce, this time I didn't learn from my brother I learnt from YouTube online, I sometimes use YouTube to help me play guitar and my big brother. I love to play to my family and show other people, when I grow up I want to play guitar, piano and drums, I also want to be a great singer.

Camp Bentzon 2011

“Have you been to Kawau Island”?I have, its allot of fun we do fun activities and allot of long running but this was going to be a great experience for me.

We arrived at Kawau Island for our walk (actually a HIKE!) I was quiet excited and a little bit hungry, we went threw allot of rocks and steep hills and it was exhausted. While our hike carried on we saw some pretty views and people private territory’s, we arrived at a beach with a beautiful view and had lunch there. We skipped rocks, chucked rocks it was quite boring, we head back to Camp Bentzon with our carve mussels pumping while hiking up the hills. I really did like the hike we did at the begining of camp.

“Have you ever done a confidences course”? Well I have, its really fun but quite freaky. Before doing the confidence course you must learn to use the three points of contact and also the funniest strategy, the skill was when you reach for the log at the top the people that are cheering says “HUG YOUR MAMA”! and is funny. I was confident but at the same time a little bit nervous, my favourite part about confidence course was the flying tyres and my dislike is the monkey bars.

Even dough I was sick at camp it was an awesome and great opportunity. My favourite memory at Camp Bentzon was my first time getting into volleyball and getting to know the parent helpers, its was good memories back at Camp Bentzon, but I happy to be back at home.

My Hometown Parade

To my absolute amazement, I saw a parade happening at Glen Innes so I begged my mum if we could go she said “Yes” I was exited. We arrived at the parade and saw people representing there culture and some dressing up as fairy-tales it was fun. A lady near-by asked if I liked to try some popcorn “CRUNCH, CRUNCH!” the popcorn was nice, sweet, crunchy and also salty, so I sweetly asked my mum if I could bye one pack, she said back “Yep”. Happily walking towards us was my little brothers friends from his Maris rugby team he asked my mum if he can hang around with them and she said yes so it was my mum and me.
My mum and I explored GI, looking for something to do. After a while my mum left my little brother and I to go touch animals at the parade, my brother Tevita and I was enjoying patting the animals. There was sheep's, a pig, a goat with its two babies, ducks, hamsters, birds and my favourite one the rabbit. Minutes went past and it was time to go home and have a nap.

I was exhausted after an awesome day at the parade. I will love to go to another GI parade someday.

My favourite animal in the world is defiantly a puppy because they are sooo cute, cuddly, fun to play with and all sorts of things. I will loveeee to have one when I grow up and will take extra good care for it. The kind of puppy I will like is a golden retriever because they are used for gun dogs to retrieve shot waterfowl such as ducks and upland game birds during hunting and shooting parties which are interesting. Golden retrievers are friendly and are the fifth most popular family dog breed in the United States. To keep them warm they use a dense inner coat that provides it with adequate warmth and the outer coat is sleek and water repellent, and lies flat against the body.So that is why I love to have a golden retriever puppy when I grow up.
